Ahead of our final home match against Everton, Martin Odegaad discusses our recent victory at Old Trafford, maintaining focus for the upcoming Everton game, and his curiosity about the Manchester City versus West Ham United match.

Our strategy is crystal clear; we must remain entirely concentrated on executing our tasks, securing the victory, and then observe the outcomes.

From the outset, we understood the necessity of claiming victories, so in that aspect, nothing has altered. Prior to our encounter with Manchester United last week, we deliberated on the imperative of pushing the battle to the season’s last day. Our objective was clear: the opportunity to return to our home ground for the final showdown with everything still at stake, affording us the chance to clinch victory here.

Our singular focus that day was securing the win, and in that regard, we must be content, despite acknowledging it wasn’t our finest display. What distinguishes this season is our ability to triumph in such matches, which bodes well for us. Once more, our defensive efforts across the field were exceptional. Overall, it was a satisfactory win, albeit not our most polished performance.

Subsequently, we were hopeful for Manchester City to stumble on Tuesday. I followed much of that match, and it appeared to be played amidst an unusual atmosphere. To their credit, it seemed as though the Tottenham players were striving for victory because they recognized they were still contending for the Champions League, yet the stadium ambiance was notably subdued. Nevertheless, our approach to this final match remains unchanged – we must emerge victorious. We must remain fixated on our own game, maintain high spirits, and uphold belief in our methods. Our task is clear now: securing victory while hoping for a slip-up from Manchester City. Our sole recourse is to adhere to our season-long approach: maintain focus and execute our game plan. Returning to the Emirates for the season’s culmination is precisely what we desire, so let fate take its course.

Football is unpredictable – we’ve witnessed stranger turnarounds before, so the crux is treating it as another game we must win. That’s the extent of our control. It’s incumbent upon us to conclude the season on a high note, triumph at home, and then await the outcome. With just one match remaining, let’s aim for victory.

I understand it will be nearly impossible not to be aware of developments in the other match – I’m certain you’ll keep us informed. It’s about managing our emotions and fixating on what’s within our control. I believe it’s easier to achieve on the pitch, where the demands of the game necessitate focus – undoubtedly, it will prove more challenging for the supporters!

After a 10-month journey spanning 37 matches, the 2023/24 season draws to a close with our team still in contention for their first Premier League title in two decades.

The equation is straightforward: our victory must align with Manchester City dropping points at home to West Ham United for us to clinch the title, thereby becoming the first team in 35 years to commence the final day off the top spot and yet emerge as champions.

Regardless of the outcome, history has been etched. Our 27 Premier League triumphs mark a new club record, while our tally of 89 league goals stands unmatched since 1963/64. A win against Everton would mark our 35th victory from 52 games across all competitions, securing an unparalleled 67.3% win rate and propelling us to 89 points – just one shy of our highest tally.

We boast the best defensive record and the most significant goal difference. However, if results align favorably, a season brimming with statistical brilliance can be validated with the ultimate accolades: first place and a 14th English league championship.

Amidst a turbulent campaign, Sean Dyche’s Everton side is finishing with a flourish, having lost only one of their last eight games to stave off relegation once again. This achievement is particularly commendable given an eight-point deduction for breaching profit and sustainability regulations.

Their 70-year tenure in the top-flight hung in the balance, with looming sanctions and an ongoing points appeal amidst a 13-game winless streak. However, a string of victories both on and off the pitch propelled them out of the relegation zone in February, securing a commendable 15th position heading into the final day.

The hallmarks of Dyche’s managerial ethos permeate this Everton squad, with only our team surpassing their tally of 13 clean sheets this season. While they secured a memorable home Merseyside derby victory over Liverpool, their away form in 2024 has faltered, failing to secure a win in their last 11 outings and failing to score more than once in any of those matches.

Mikel Arteta’s sentiments reflect the significance of the occasion, acknowledging the prolonged absence of the Premier League trophy from Emirates Stadium and expressing optimism for a positive outcome. Dyche, on the other hand, remains steadfastly focused on maintaining his team’s momentum and mentality into the final game, emphasizing the importance of their own performance.

Arteta’s injury concerns revolve around Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber, while Dyche’s attention is on Andre Gomes’ facial injury sustained in their recent victory over Sheffield United.

As Jack Harrison joins others in beginning their summer break early due to injury, the stage is set for a potentially historic encounter. With a formidable record against Everton, including an impressive home record and a penchant for strong finishes to the season, the team is poised to script yet another memorable finale under Arteta’s guidance.
